Hydrotherapy = Healing
Hydrotherapy or “water therapy” is the treatment of ailments
through the use of water. Hydrotherapy has been used for thousands of
years, beginning with the Greeks and Romans. Water heals us in many
ways. Since more than 50% of our body is composed of water, it only
makes sense that this fluid be linked to our healing needs.
The basic healing elements of hydrotherapy (heat, buoyancy and massage),
work together to create an experience that is both relaxing
and healthy. Soaking in the spa’s hot water raises the body temperature
and causes the blood vessels to dilate, resulting in increased circulation.
The natural buoyancy of your body in the water helps
relieve pressure
on your muscles, tendons and joints and creates the relaxing
sensation of weightlessness. As jets of warm water massage you, your
spa works
to relieve tension, aches and pains in your muscles,
ligaments, tendons and soft tissue. Hydrotherapy also stimulates the
release of endorphins,
the body’s natural painkillers.
One of the wonderful things about spas is that you can position your
body and adjust the jets to direct the water flow to where you need
it most. Altering the water pressure and temperature allows you to find
your own comfort level – whether you enjoy an invigorating fast
action massage or a gentle quiet peaceful soak.
Your spa is a marvelous place of relaxation and rejuvenation, just
waiting to treat your tired, aching muscles. No special prescription
needed – just immerse your body into the water, turn on the pump,
aim the jets, and you ’re on your way.
