Pool School 101 - Party by the Pool

A pool makes entertaining a fun, easy and attractive setting for almost any kind of party. Try some of these ideas for your next pool party.

I Do
Consider the poolside for a casual, romantic wedding. For decorations, lighted candles and flowers in the pool. For an intimate setting, position musicians at one end of the pool with the wedding party at the other; seat guests around the pool between. Top off the mood by saying “I Do” just as the sun is setting.

Poolside Luau
Say “aloha” to your fellow employees or friends with a flower lei and a grass skirt. Serve fruit drinks in hollowed out coconut shells. Play Hawaiian music and ocean sounds in the background to help your guests feel a million miles away.

Celebrity Pool Party
Have an A-list party with a little help from your friends. Each guest is to RSVP and show up dressed as their favorite celebrity. Decorate with star lights or patio lanterns. Have disposable cameras on guest tables at the ready for paparazzi shots. Play music by your “star” guests, or better yet, let the stars sing the songs themselves karaoke style.

White Night
A sophisticated version of the toga party – everyone is required to wear all white. Send out invitations for this formal “white tie” event on white stationary. Strew white flowers around the pool area. Use white twinkling lights and floating white votives for a serene mood that sparkles. Compile music with titles or musicians with white in the name. For a fun activity, try night croquet – illuminate your lawn course with well-placed white candles.

Christmas in July
Kids and adults of all faiths and nationalities can have fun with the idea of a summertime Christmas, whether they observe the holiday or not. Throw a non-denominational Christmas party that will warm hearts and lift spirits until the real thing arrives. Bring out the mistletoe and your fake Christmas tree with all the trimmings, or hang ornaments on ribbons strung around the pool area. What to wear? Well red and green, of course (but don’t forget the swimsuits!). Ask each guest to bring an anonymous wrapped homemade gift (or a limited dollar value gift) to share. Play Secret Santa by piling all the gifts into one area or under the tree. Assign a number to each guest, then when their number is drawn, they can choose a gift to take with them and unwrap at home. Lastly, what would a holiday party be without Christmas music – like a sing along to around the pool to songs like “White Christmas” or “Jingle Bells”.
